Overview
The Tudor Royal Beasts series features the royal mythical creature Seymour, originating from myths and legends. The Unicorn, the latest release in this series is the fifth commemorative coin.

Crafted by the Royal Mint using 1 ounce of 99.9% pure silver, the Seymour Unicorn is the latest release in the "Tudor Royal Beasts Series." Illustrated by illustrator David Lawrence, the inspiration for the design was drawn from the unicorn adorning the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace.

During the early Tudor era, the formidable Tudor monarchy faced diverse threats to its dominance. To secure legitimacy, Henry VIII embraced heraldry, commissioning finely carved mythical royal beasts at Hampton Court Palace's entrance. The heraldic shield and symbolic representations showcase the majesty of royal authority, establishing an association between the unicorn and the family through their coat of arms. The reverse side of the silver coin features the Seymour Unicorn, adorned with a royal coronet on its head, a wreath of flowers around its neck, and encircled by a chain. Standing to the side, it holds a shield displaying the complete unmarried arms of Queen Seymour. The unicorn, a mystical creature resembling a horse with a single horn on its forehead, was incorporated into the Seymour family's coat of arms, symbolizing their alliance with the Tudor monarchy. Considered the most powerful and untamed of all creatures, the unicorn is often associated with purity and fertility. Jane Seymour, King Henry VIII's third wife received this mythical creature as a hopeful blessing for their marriage. The obverse displays King Charles III's portrait designed by Martin Jennings along with the issuance year and face value. The edge of coin carries the profound message “HAMPTON COURT PALACE ∙ ROYAL TUDOR BEASTS". Collaborating with palace history experts, this series allows a deeper understanding and commemoration of the Tudor dynasty's rise. Each coin includes a booklet detailing Henry VIII's heraldry and the symbolic significance of the Seymour Unicorn.
