The Royal Tudor Beasts Collection is inspired by a series of heraldic statues at Moat Bridge of Hampton Court Palace that represent the lineage of Henry VIII and his third queen, Jane Seymour. They are symbols of the strength of the Tudor dynasty and, as subjects for coinage, are a clever means of celebrating a fascinating period of British history.
The first release in The Royal Tudor Beasts Collection features the Seymour Panther. It was given to Jane Seymour, Henry VIII’s third wife by the king from the royal treasury of beasts. With flames coming from its mouth and ears, the Seymour Panther symbolised a peaceful and loving union between the king and consort who bore him the male heir he so desperately yearned for.
Designed by David Lawrence, the reverse of coin features the Seymour Panther, a fiery beast that holding the Seymour Arms. The obverse shows the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Jody Clark.
