This beautiful coin is the tenth release of The Royal Mint’s Lunar Series. Combining centuries of Chinese tradition with British minting craftsmanship, the collection celebrates the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac, and their distinctive characteristics and qualities.

The year 2023 is associated with the rabbit – a highly symbolic creature in Chinese folklore and tradition. Cautious and considerate, the rabbit represents humility, elegance and kindness. Rabbit characteristics include gentleness and sociability, meaning people often believe those born under this zodiac sign are good team players.

Designer captures the rabbit’s characteristic qualities. The reverse features a gentle rabbit with his floppy ears pined back and one little foot raised. It stays at the edge of a creek, with grass and falling leaves in the background. The Chinese character representing "rabbit" is positioned directly above the creature. The inscription "YEAR OF THE RABBIT 2023" is also included. The obverse depicts the Fifth Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and face value.
