The Chinese zodiac cycle contains 12 animals that record years and reflect people's attributes. The Lunar New Year marks the transition of the Chinese zodiac sign from one animal to the next. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. In Chinese culture, the rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are believed to be vigilant, witty, quick-minded and ingenious.

To celebrate the Year of Rabbit, The People’s Bank of China has released the 2023 Year of the Rabbit gold and silver commemorative coins. The sets consists of 13 coins, including 8 gold coins and 5 silver coins.

The reverse of 30g blossom shaped silver coin depicts a rabbit holding a Chinese cabbage, accompanied with lotus flowers and leaves. The Chinese name of cabbage “bai cai’ is a pun for “100 wealth”, representing wealth, abundant and prosperity. The wording “Gui Mao” in Chinese and face value are engraved. The obverse of coin features the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese traditional auspicious patterns, the title of PRC and the year of issue.
