When Her Majesty The Queen was crowned on 2 June 1953, ten statues were created to form a guard of honour at the entrance to Westminster Abbey. The Queen’s Beasts Coin Collection breathes new life into these mighty creatures that represent the British monarchy.

 

The Unicorn of Scotland is the second coin of The Queen’s Beast Series. Designer, Jody Clark has captured the beast in his powerful but elegant composition. The unicorn may be the stuff of fairy tales but for centuries it was believed to be a real beast. Today the Unicorn of Scotland is celebrated as a symbol of strength tempered with grace, and appears all around the United Kingdom on signs and monuments. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of beloved British Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
