The Royal Canadian Mint officially unveiled the third design for the Canadian Wildlife Silver Bullion Coin series at the ANA World’s Fair of Money held in Chicago. The reverse design features the image of a ferocious cougar in a dramatic pose. Its teeth are bared as it prepares to bound over a fallen tree limb. The inscription above reads “Canada” with the designers initials “WW” to the left and the purity of “9999″ to the right. At the base is the additional inscription “Fine Silver 1 oz Argent Pur” which overlaps with the lower portion of the design. As with previous releases, the obverse featured the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt. The legal tender denomination of “5 Dollars” and the “2012″ date appears beneath the portrait. The 2012 Canadian Cougar 1 oz. Silver Coins were offered with a maximum mintage of one million pieces, struck at the Mint facility in Ottawa. Despite the mintage limit, these coins were offered at premiums typical for one ounce silver bullion coins.
