Celebrate Australia’s rich Indigenous heritage with this remarkable Australia 2025 Emu Utingat 99.99% Antiqued Coloured Silver Coin 2oz, released by The Perth Mint. This captivating design features the emu, known as "Utingat" in the Kalkadoon language, the largest native bird in Australia and a revered symbol in the Aboriginal Dreamtime. In ancestral stories, the emu journeys across songlines in search of water and food, representing strength, endurance, and connection to Country. Their feathers are used in ceremony, adornment, and cultural tools.
The reverse artwork is a vivid, original painting by Chern’ee Sutton, a proud Kalkadoon woman and renowned contemporary Aboriginal artist whose works are held in high honour, including within the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace. Her unique style and storytelling bring cultural significance and visual richness to this striking coin. The design features a beautifully coloured emu accompanied by three chicks, symbolising family, protection, and survival. Above them, a radiant sun is formed with concentric rings of red, orange, and yellow dots, representing light, life, and the many diverse communities across the emu’s homeland. A floating grey feather adds spiritual depth, reflecting the emu’s presence on Country and its symbolic path through generations. The scene is enriched with green and brown arches, evoking the appearance of mountain ranges. At the same time, a flowing blue trail lined with footprints and circular waterholes illustrates the emu’s journey through life and land, a tribute to the ancestral songlines that shaped their world. Completing the design are the ‘P’ mintmark and the year of issue. This stunning piece is finished in a unique antique, giving each coin its distinct patina. The obverse features Dan Thorne’s effigy of King Charles III, encircled by inscriptions “CHARLES III”, country of issue, the coin’s weight, purity, metal content and face value.
Housed in a window-style display frame and packaged in a vibrant art box that echoes the coin’s design, this release is more than a numismatic piece, it is a culturally rich tribute and collectible work of art. Perfect for collectors, admirers of Aboriginal heritage, or those who value Australian native fauna and meaningful symbolism.
