Appearing in English heraldry from the twelfth century onwards, the griffin was elevated to royal status by Edward III – the epitome of medieval English kingship and founder of the Order of the Garter based at Windsor Castle.
 
Designer, Jody Clark has captured the power of The Griffin of Edward III in a dramatic design that blends fantasy and realism. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of beloved British Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
