A touching homage to Queen Elizabeth II's life, reign, and years of devotion.
The attributes that marked Queen Elizabeth II's reign were steadfast, constant, and true. Queen Elizabeth II, an example of responsibility and dignity, never wavered in her commitment. At the age of 21, and again on her coronation day in 1953, she pledged to devote her life to service to her country and the Commonwealth. And she kept her word throughout her amazing reign.
The reverse is inspired by a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Imperial State Crown on her coronation day (June 2, 1953) by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw. The floral insignia of Canada (maple leaf) and the United Kingdom (Tudor rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil, and Irish shamrock) surround this image of Queen Elizabeth II. Above displays the country of issue and face value. The tribute obverse is marked by a Tudor rose along with the Queen’s reign (1952 – 2022) and features the four Queen Elizabeth II effigies that have appeared on Canadian coins since 1953 (left to right): the 2003-2022 effigy by Susanna Blunt; the 1990-2002 effigy by Dora de Pédery-Hunt; the 1965-1989 effigy by Arnold Machin; and the 1953-1964 effigy by Mary Gillick. This tribute obverse blends the four various effigies that have adorned Canadian coins since Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. This obverse appears solely on numismatic coins issued during Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
