Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series III collection continues the rich tradition of minting spectacular bullion coins by portraying animal themes from the Chinese Lunar calendar. This beautiful silver coin is the third release of the Series, celebrating the Year of the Tiger.
The tiger is known as the king of beasts in China, taking a similar symbolic representation to the lion in the West. Those born under the influence of Tiger are said to be natural leaders, blessed with courage, charm, and confidence. Tigers are seen as guardians of children in Chinese culture and are a symbol of bravery.
The coin’s reverse portrays a tiger cub following its proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain featuring ferns and bamboo. The design also includes the Chinese character for "Tiger" and the inscription "TIGER 2022". Both tigers are gilded in 24-carat gold. The obverse of the coin depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the weight and fineness, and the monetary denomination.
